Umalas Japanese restaurant Torimen

Umalas Japanese restaurant Torimen

I recently dropped into Umalas Japanese restaurant Torimen in Umalas 2 and was impressed with the layout and design and the quality and price of the food.

Torimen in Umalas opened in April 2017 and is offering a 20% discount for the initial opening period.

Torimen in Umalas has some lovely design features – the cut bamboo is gorgeous and the various elements of Japanese elegance are very nice.

I had a delicious chicken and veggie soup. This comes as a bowl full of goodies and a pot of soup that is poured over it. Katty, the owner and chef, says she cooks the soup for up to 8 hours, so it is very flavourful and rich, almost a reduction.

At 68k (less the 20% opening promotion) this is good value. Not a big serve but enough for a main meal. This is fairly typical of pricing at Torimen. Most dishes are around that price and of course sushi varies depending on what you want.

There are sushi options and other Japanese soups. During the day there is also a selection of Japanese nasi campur which, as I was there at night was not available, but it would be worth a try if you are passing around lunch time.

The ingredients used are organic where possible, and there is no MSG used.

Situated just around the corner from Raya Kerobokan as you enter the Umalas area, Torimen in Umalas is a little noisy on the tables outside, but the inside, non-smoking air-conditioned section is quieter.

I recommend Torimen Japanese restaurant, also known as Warung Jepang. There is some car parking here which is helpful on this busy road.
