Opened early 2015 in Jl Cemara in Sanur, The Onion bar and restaurant is large, with some tables outside on the street, a front bar with some TV screens and an adjacent dining area, and a spacious rear bar with the pool tables and more TV screens.
Often Bali sports bars are a bit grungy and seedy, but The Onion, with a cosy dining area and relatively sophisticated menu, is a sports bar you can comfortably bring your family to.
I found myself in a kinda VIP lounge area watching my game which was perfect. Sitting on a couch watching a game was really good.
The Onion can have up to 8 different sports on at once, so will be showing pretty much whatever game or sport you wish to watch.
I went to The Onion Bar and Restaurant in Sanur on a Saturday evening to watch a game and to play in the pool competition. With a winners prize of 1 million for the 50k entry it was pretty popular.

Perhaps 30 people played including some very good pool players to play and watch, and with three tables it went fast and smoothly. I didn’t win!
In early June 2015 there will be a competition dart board installed, so if darts if your thing, you may have a new home!
The menu consists of sausage, bacon, eggs and rice porridge breakfasts, sandwiches and standard bar snacks, burgers, and mains including grills, ribs, steaks, a couple of pastas, lamb shanks and some fish dishes.
There are also some Asian standards as well, and a basic kids’ menu.
I had the lamb shank which was very tasty, while my friend had the pate which was as good as it was surprising to see in a Bali sports bar.
I was very impressed with Sanur sports bar The Onion bar and restaurant. The owners know what they are doing and what they want to provide – a clean, savoury, family-friendly sports bar experience in Sanur with wholesome food at a good price.
The meal pricing is at the higher end, with most meals over 120k, including a ridiculous 1100 gram steak for 485k including tax and service charges. Beers are 30k for a small Bintang which is standard.
They also have live music some nights each week, usually rock and roll oldies. I went on a Monday night in April 2017 and the rock band was great, dishing up faithful renditions of Deep Purple and AC DC classics.
