Denpasar Bakery and cafe The Orange

Denpasar Bakery and cafe The Orange

I must admit to being pleasantly surprised when I was in central Denpasar at lunch time recently and dropped into Denpasar bakery and cafe The Orange.

Previously when I have been to restaurants in central Denpasar I tend not to eat, having been appalled at the crap most places serve as food, but The Orange was pretty good.

Yes I am a bit prejudiced about modern Indonesian cuisine and the processed ‘white bread’ nature of it! Certainly one aspect of the West that Indonesia would be much better off without.

Denpasar bakery and cafe The Orange is part of a chain of similar bakeries in the Denpasar area.

Situated on Jalan Tekur Omar Denpasar Bakery and cafe The Orange has a monster menu, serving Chinese food, pizza, pasta, noodle and rice dishes, salads and some steaks (these being around 70-80k so don’t expect much quality here!).

Entering Denpasar bakery and cafe The Orange you are confronted with piles of Indo kitsch with lots of plastics good for sale. Walking through the piles of pink and sky blue plastic junk(!) you see the tables etc that are quite tastefully done.

The Orange has an indoor non smoking area as well as some tables outside for smokers.

I had a snack size serve of fish and chips which was tasty. It was quite nice sitting there. Inside there are many cakes and pastries, mostly of the super sweet variety, more suited to Indonesian palates than European ones, but well presented.

This is a fairly good quality Indonesian bakery cafe where the food and restaurant is clean and fresh.

I was a bit surprised to see there was no fan in the outdoor area, and there was also no wifi, I guess in an attempt to stop people from sitting there all day on their phones.
