Batu Belig Asian restaurant Star Apple

Batu Belig Modern Asian restaurant Star Apple Pad Thai

Batu Belig Asian restaurant Star Apple

Batu Belig Asian restaurant Star Apple closed in 2017. Clearly Star Apple were proud of what they served, and I had a delicious meal there.

Situated across the road from Batu Belig restaurant Watercress, Star Apple is owned by the previous owners and chefs of some famous Thai restaurants in the chic Rocks area in Sydney.

Star Apple is called a modern Asian restaurant as they refresh old Asian standards.

I mostly ate from the specials board, starting with Son Choy Bow, which consisted of crushed nuts and shredded veggies in a lettuce wrap which was delicious.

Then came a recommendation from Ray, the matre-de, of a small yet delectable dish of a prawn set on a bed of caramelised kaffir lime-infused chopped peanuts and wrapped in a betel nut leaf. Just a bite full, but really nice.

Then came the main, for which I chose the chicken pad Thai, which was really good. Lightly cooked with the ingredients keeping their own flavour, full of delicate flavours and textures.

At 70k this was a good deal, although a bit too small to be a stand-alone dinner.

I was a bit surprised that this was served along with a spoonful each of white and brown sugar on the side.

Then of course I had to try a dessert, and again Ray suggested the Indonesian padang pancakes with again caramelised nuts shredded coconut with chocolate sauce. I have had this dish before but never as tasty as this.

The menu consists of Thai, Indonesian along with main dishes like braised beef ribs (cooked for 6 hours, apparently awesome), beef Rendang, barramundi, chicken, prawn and tuna dishes.

There is quite a selection, beyond salads, of vegetarian dishes, including one wonderfully named ‘Son in Law’s Eggs’, plus dahl, couscous and some curry puffs and a green curry.

The dessert menu includes crème brulee, a chocolate Amareto tart, a meringue log, caramelised banana cake and sticky date pudding.

Clearly Bali Asian restaurant Star Apple is a really nice place to eat, well priced with good service. Also it is nice to see the shiny wine glasses on the tables waiting for patrons.

Star Apple have a large inside air conditioned non smoking section with a a couple of small tables and a couch area outside for smokers or for those who just like being outside.

Overall I was very impressed with Batu Belig Asian restaurant Star Apple and will go again.

Batu Belig Asian restaurant Star Apple is open for dinner Monday through Saturday, and for lunch, Friday and Saturday only.

Currently they do not have credit card facilities, though there is a an ATM just down the road.
