Bali supermarket Hypermart at Galleria

It is a bit unusual for Australians to enter such a massive place that sells food in one area and TVs and fridges in another. Hardly a supermarket at all, but a Hypermarket!

Part of the huge Galleria mall, Bali’s largest mall, at the junction of Jalan Sunset and the Ngurah Rai airport bypass in Kuta, Hypermart is accessible from the Galleria car and bike park at the rear.

You have to go through Matahari which is a big, and a bit expensive, department store and outside into the courtyard and then go up the escalator to get to Hypermart. Matahari is a bit like Myers, where you can buy ‘quality’ cosmetics, manchester and the clothes are pretty good although usually just small sizes.

I go here if I want to price check electrical stuff, or motorbike helmets or phones. Their prices are pretty competitive with the specialised electronic stores but delivery is a bit awkward to arrange.

They have ladders, bikes, furniture (most of which is crappy cheap flat-pack stuff) as well as a large bakery and fresh food area.

Yes, you can buy anything here and it is usually very busy as Indonesians love air-conditioned malls.

There is a bottle shop here also – nowhere is Bali is there any such thing as the quality of spirits being guaranteed, but it should be OK and not fake alcohol, at least for sure not the dangerous alcohol you can find in Bali. That said, it is a bit expensive to buy booze here.

Hypermart is much the same as Carrefour and possibly cheaper for electronic stuff.

Hypermart at Galleria in Bali is worth visiting just for the experience!
